🌌 Calling Astrophotographers! 🌌

I'm planning an astrophotography-focused adventure to the Uyuni Salt Flats and surrounding areas in mid-April 2026, and I’m looking for a few fellow stargazers to join the journey.

This is not a commercial offer—just a call for volunteers who share a passion for photographing the night sky. Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned pro, you're welcome!

📸 Details:

  • Group size: 4–8 people max (to keep costs low and logistics manageable)

  • Budget: 1,300 USD ballpark + airline tickets depending on your location. The more people involved the less expensive although we should keep it under 8 people. Cost estimation considers food, transportation and basic lodging.

  • Duration: 5-6 days. 7-8 days max including in and out from the airport.

  • Focus: Astrophotography, with opportunities to explore the surreal landscapes of Uyuni and surroundings (E.g. Eduardo Avaroa park) and maybe somethingnear La Paz. Opportunity for daytime trips as well although this is not the primary focus.

  • Who: Astrophotographers only, any experience level.

  • Why: To share knowledge, split costs, and create unforgettable images together.

  • Who receives payments: Payments would be sent to airlines and tour operators only. This is not a paid seminar. I won’t collect any money.

  • Key dates: Plane tickets: ASAP!. This is the primary requirement for having your seat. February 2026: Lodging reservation. Late March/early April: tour/transportation reservations.

  • Who am I? Just a fellow astrophotographer with some experience looking for dark skies. Facebk: jaimezapata2002. IG: equatorastro. Active collaborator on TAIC as well.

  • Is this a scam? It is not although I offer no guarantee or insurance. Accept the risk/challenge on your own but it might worth the experience.

If this sounds like your kind of trip, feel free to message me for more info or to express interest. Let’s make magic under the stars!

Interesting request. I am relatively new to the whole astronomy bit since retirement. Not interested in the U.S. at this time unfortunately, however curious if you have done similar in Chile for southern objects. From a North American observer, South America has an appeal however and have been delving into a bit of research of the logistics and lodging but have not fixed on anything … just gathering some info from fellow amateur astronomers at this time. Good luck with this trip and all the best. Edited above msg… Have since seen you are from Equador. All the best.

Hi Ken, thanks for reaching out. This is a trip to the Uyuni Salt flats in Bolivia. Close enough to Chile, but not yet there. I might go to Chile as well in a couple of years. We have a pretty solid idea on costs and logistics. You pretty much just need firm intention and plane tickets. The rest comes as group planning.

Best regards!
