Hello everyone,
I'm seriously considering the StellaLyra 6" F/4 as an addition to my imaging setup and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who owns one.
My Current Setup:
Camera: ZWO ASI533MM Pro
Current scope: Askar FRA400 (F/5.5 and F/3.9) refractor
Imaging from a Bortle 3 site
My Main Use Case: This would be primarily for traveller-mode imaging - I need something I can transport, set up on-site, and break down at the end of each session. The carbon fiber construction (good thermal balance) and relatively compact size are very appealing for this.
My Key Questions:
Collimation - This is my biggest concern with an F/4 Newtonian:
How challenging do you find collimation, especially for someone new to Newtonians?
How well does it hold collimation between sessions and during transport?
What collimation tools/methods do you recommend? I've seen mentions of MetaGuide having good collimation support for fast Newtonians. I am also considering SkyWave (although would need to wait for an official manual)
Any tips or tricks specific to this scope?
Portability & Durability:
How do you transport it? Any issues with the carbon fiber tube?
Does the RP focuser hold up well?
Any Other Issues:
Anything you wish you'd known before buying?
Any modifications or accessories you'd consider essential?
How's the overall build quality in your experience?
I'm drawn to the light-gathering power for imaging faint DSOs, but want to make sure the collimation demands won't be a constant headache in a mobile setup.
Thanks in advance for any insights you can share!
Clear skies
