This is a astrophotography site so am not sure how many people are familiar with Al, but he was a true pioneer and titan in the field of amateur astronomy; TeleVue eyepieces are the standard. I recall calling the company with a question about the back focus on my Paracorr. I was surprised when the person who picked up the phone and answered my question was Al Nagler.

In the 80’s I retailed TeleVue products so I had a lot of interaction with Al and his wife. A very interesting character and great optical engineer. He will be very much missed.
