Hey,

once again weather decided to be bad enough to make actual ap impossible.
anyway, I also like to think about possible ap setups. that said, I don´t really plan on buying or building a new scope.
It is really only about getting opinions, discussing the same things over and over…

now to the theme of this thread:

I bought a second hand celestron C6 6 months ago.

It's fairly small and has a focal length of around 1500mm at F10. I have a imx533 camera on the back.

I have plenty of very rough processed galaxy images taken with this on my telescopius.

Guiding using a 240mm f4 guidescope on a "cheap" hem15.

It's definitely better than my current skills, leaving a fair bit of Headroom for me to improve into.

Isn’t the Rc8 setup with the larger camera much more expensive?

I think the newt is the best allrounder for deep sky, but for galaxies in particular I voted for the RC8.

Some might say the images will be over sampled, but I think you can squeeze out a tiny bit more detail with the longer FL.

The scope is also more compact.

The Newt and 585 would work very well, not hard to get working properly and very, very affordable. I would not go super fast here. If your mount can handle it, something around F/6 would be wonderful and in combination with the small 585 sensor, you won’t need a coma corrector. This is a very powerful combo at a very low cost of entry.

The overall image quality from the RC setup will be better, APS-C verses 585 is kinda unfair but it’s going to come at a much higher price, both in cost and complication.
