Help with Hubble Palette using L-Synergy + L-Extreme on ASI294MC Pro

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased the new Optolong L-Synergy filter.
It’s a 7nm dual-band filter for SII and OIII.

I already own the L-Extreme filter, and I’m trying to create a Hubble Palette (SHO) image of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) using these two filters with my ZWO ASI294MC Pro color camera.

I’ve been experimenting with PixelMath, but so far I’m mostly going by trial and error.
Is PixelMath the right tool for this kind of combination?
Could anyone suggest a good workflow or method to achieve a proper SHO mapping using these filters?

Thanks in advance!

Clear skies,

Giampiero

I’ve been contemplating getting similar filters for my 294MC, to allow me to image when the Moon is too bright (I am under bortle 1-2 skies, so I don’t need them otherwise :-)

I borrowed a filter wheel from a friend, but that only has 1.25” narrowband filters for a mono camera in it and doesn’t fit my 2” ZWO Ha/OIII filter. However, I did shoot some narrowband data during the full Moon last week and over the weekend, and used that data to play with PixelMath (in siril).

The formulae I used are the ones from https://remoteastrophotography.com/foraxx-palette-script-dynamic-narrowband-combinations/ and they seem to produce colours that are not entirely dissimilar from what I would get when shooting with only a UV/IR cut filter during new Moon.

  • R = (Oiii^~Oiii)*Sii + ~(Oiii^~Oiii)*Ha

  • G = ((Oiii*Ha)^~(Oiii*Ha))*Ha + ~((Oiii*Ha)^~(Oiii*Ha))*Oiii

  • B = Oiii

I would run both filter ML’s through DBXtract to produce Ha, Oiii, and Sii mono images and then proceed with a normal NB workflow to your desired results.

Thanks all for help! Your suggestion was really helpful — running both ML filters through DBXtract and Foraxx palette worked perfectly and allowed me to get my first results.

This is like processing images taken with the Askar D1 and D2. I found this tutorial the most straightforward. https://youtu.be/N4nVjYaDfPc?si=3OWskcrCVjAXPPEB

I found this way is similar to working with mono SHO.
