I’m using N.I.N.A. with a SB MtY mount. My target was NGC 6888 and I sent it to the Framing window and it looked fine. However, when I clicked “slew” nothing happened and I got the following message.

“ASCOM Driver Error - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object”

I don’t have a clue as to what that means or how to fix the problem.

Can anyone here enlighten me as to what I’ve done wrong?

Hank,

I use the same set up and got that message quite a while ago, so I may be recalling incorrectly.  I think I solved the issue by ensuring that the planetarium was set to TheSkyX in the Options/Equipment section.  Like I said, I had the error a long time ago and fixed it, but I'm struggling to remember if that was the solution.

@Mossyback, can you clarify if you hit slew in NINA, as @Ron’s reply seems to be assuming you are invoking the slew from TheSkyX. Or maybe not. You do NOT need TSX to be the planetarium for NINA to use TSX as the driver for a MyT. You can use it as a planetarium, but I used to use Stellarium. You do not even need a planetarium at all for NINA to slew to the target.

The error is a bit hard to diagnose out of context, but if it’s coming from NINA I would make sure NINA is connected to the mount, and is set up correctly (there are various guidelines floating around for TSX and the X2 driver though for some reason I can’t find one right now). I know you need to turn off sync, enable direct guide and pulse guide. You have to use a driver matching your TSX (32 vs 64 bits) if I recall also.

I also recommend at this point getting on the latest NINA, it’s a release candidate and there are a lot of fixes (though I do not recall any specifically for Paramount).

The best help for NINA is on the discord server where the developers (I am not one) hang out. If after some checking you do not see the issue, put the log from a failure into the NINA channel that matches best (probably Hardware Issues). Just drag and drop the whole log, but if there’s a n approximate time when it occurs that always helps to share.

Linwood is right in that you do not need to use TSX as the planetarium, however, IIRC, I think the error I saw came when the planetarium program was incorrectly set and I used TSX to find my target.  Using NINA's get target from planetarium threw the error, since it was looking for the planetarium set in the location I mentioned.  But I could also be far off base.  It's not hard to check though.

Thanks to both of you for the information and suggestions. I think it will be clear again tonight so I can check things out.

Save time — all these things can be debugged in daylight (other than the ‘center’ part of a slew-and-center, but you can just do the slew).

I took Linwood’s suggestion and opened up the observatory this afternoon. After checking all of the setup steps mentioned above, I slewed the scope and everything is working the way it should.

Thanks again to the both of you for your help.
