Hello,

Has anybody experience with the skywatcher Wave150i ?

My wave 150i worked very good until I made some changes in the cable management. In order to have less USB cable between the telescope/mount and the PC, I installed on the telescope platform an USB-Hub with power input. However, after several minutes first the Dec axis did not move and some minutes later also the RA axis.

Meanwhile I have send to the seller for repair.

But it would be of interest for me, if has someone an idea what could happen?

I have the Wave 150i, the whole power management thing is a puzzle to me. For the upper deck I am running a 10 amp power supply which requires the larger plug and it runs power to the upper deck which includes plug in to asiair/guide cam/main cam/focuser. Have not had any serious power issues except at times I get a lightning bolt that comes and goes which can be indicative of power variation. Thinking of getting the Zwo 10 watt power brick which should power the 2600 and everything else.

One issue I ran into is apparently the DEC plate is limited to 5A no matter how much you are feeding into the 150i.

I ended up getting a pigtail for the power supply and running the 150i on it’s own line and then ran another to the PPBA that is on the rig. I kept having problems with my mini PC disconnecting and some camera issues (power related also) when running from only the DEC power and having that run through the PPBA, which runs the dew heaters, ASI2600MM and the mini PC. I was also running the Wave 150i from the PPBA - which was only getting the 5A max instead of the 10A it is capable of handling. When watching the PPBA software you could see that it was maxing out at times.

My plan in the future with the Wave 150i is: one separate power supply 12-13.8V and cable for the wave mount, the second power supply (12V) to a SvBony 241 Pro, all USB (Camera, filter wheel, focuser, guiding camera to this hub and with one USB3 to the PC (not on the mount). At the moment I am thinking about the USB cable dealing with the movemant of the mount to the hub or direct to the PC. In sum will will have three or maximum 4 cables. Dew heating comes from the SvBony.

In former version (which has damaged my Wave 150i) I had one power cord to a Pegasus Power Box Micro and from this one cable to the mount, one to the camera, one to the PC, here I have measured the 7A, But I think the voltage was to low for the mount. I got later on the information that low voltage also can destroy the Plate sin the mount.

Both posts are asking for help with the same Skywatcher Wave150i telescope that developed axis movement problems after the user modified the cable management system by adding a USB hub.
