Can't download full resolution images from Astrobin anymore?

When the sky is overcast and I can’t use my scopes, I liked to go to astrobin and download full resolution pictures and project them on my wall to get a planetarium-like experience. I’d browse the virtual sky and vicariously travel the universe, comparing the catalog online with my own work to gauge how much improvement was possible in my own photos.

It’s been a little while since I last did this but now it seems I can’t get full-resolution images any more.

Seems like I remember an orange button on the screen, that is now gone.

I paid a full subscription to get all the site’s features. Did something change?

Hi,

Images at full resolution can be downloaded if the photographer allows that in their settings for that image. In that case, a Download menu entry will be available.

Most imagers don’t allow that in their settings.

Downloading the zoomable version has been made more difficult (not by design but as a side effect of using a different way to zoom images) but I think that most people are happy about that fact.

You can probably still fulfill your use case by using the Play button that’s available on search pages, that starts a slideshow.

For instance you can do that to project all IOTDs.

Hope this helps!

Salvatore
