Hey!

So I started this summer with the dwarf3.

But already I want more. Coming from landscape photography I want more detail so I already purchased a ASI AM5

Now I now I’m looking for a camera and a system to control everything

What I know is that I want die 585 sensor and mono. I am aware of the more work this means but I don’t care.

So now the question is ASIAir, Stellavita or RB Focus Gaius-S2 with Nina

ASIAir: seems to work good but you are very boxed in

Stellavita: online you really read a lot of bad reviews

Nina: I don’t know how hard it is to learn that

I really could need some advice

Thanks

If you already have a ZWO AM5 Mount, then ASI Air is probably a very good option as both products are matched and compatible. I am already an user of both products and the performance is satisfactory.

My impression of Touptek StellaVita is that it is more open and flexible and can support multiple hardware products. Uses the ASCOM interface and some reports I have read about it are good. I am told that Autoguiding function on StellaVita is quite good whereas ASI Air uses a scaled down version of PHD2

There are several videos on YouTube from Cuiv and others which have compared both these products which you can look before deciding

As regards camera since you are interested in 585 sensor and mono, the ZWO 585 MM Pro is a good option and can be seamlessly connected with ASI Air . Am assuming you will use the necessary filters and filterwheel for image acquisition.

I use OSC and the 533 sensor and have the ZWO 533 MC Pro cooled camera and the performance is good

Hope this helps

Would you also consider a mini pc to run the rig with? I use a MeLe 3C utilizing NINA with my AM5N mount and it runs very smoothly. A mini pc would probably give you the most flexibility and computing power.

NINA does have a bit of a learning curve, but I wouldn’t consider it a huge one and once you’ve become acclimated to the layout and the advanced sequencer, it’s a tough tool to beat. I came from using a RPi 4 with KStars and EKOS (Astroberry) and I find NINA easier to use.

Thanks for the answers!!

But right after I posted this someone listed a 5 month old ASIAir for 200€ 🤣

So I had no choice 🤣

I found NINA pretty easy to set up and use with all the guidance from YouTubers, especially Cuive the lazy geek, who has a great set of recent vids that cover everything from installation of all the necessary components, to setting it up and using it step by step. I’ve only just completed my third image, so I’m telling you this from the perspective of a zero start newb.

I would personally go with the Gaius, because I want to use NINA and I’ll probably go that way, or with the substantially more expensive Eagle, for that reason. Currently I’m using NINA on an i7 laptop which sucks a lot of battery and the processing power is completely unnecessary.

Thank you for all the answers

i will think about it, maybe resell the asiair

will watch all the cuv videos

the freedom of using any gear i like is still very tempting

also sinxe touptek offers the imx585 with filterwheel and filters for an amazing price

cheers,

Zwo asi air locks you into zwo gear, except for mounts and some DSLRs

Nina is easy enough to learn. Stick to the legacy sequencer until you get more used to it.

Consider a nuc style mini pc plus something like an svbony sv240 or sv241.
