I am having trouble retrieving the downloaded information.

The file is a CSV file with commas as separators.

However, most of the comments on my images contain commas. This makes it impossible for me to import the data into an Excel file, for example, because Excel cannot distinguish between commas used as separators and those used in the text.

Hi Francis,

assuming you mean the image description (comments by users are not exported in the data download), yes, I can see how that can be an issue.

I'll put it on my list to escape the commas in the description.

Thanks for reporting!

Yes, I'm talking about the image description

Hmm I ran a few tests and it looks like commas are properly escaped in descriptions. Can you send me some more detailed information please?

Here is the file extracted from my data. The extraction was done yesterday.

Converting the file with Excel produces nonsense.

data.csv

data.xlsx

Hi Francis,

the file is correctly formatted as per the CSV specification. Fields that contain commas are enclosed in double quotation marks. You can verify it by opening the CSV file with a text editor.

I don't know if you can change some import settings in Excel to make it work, but for instance in Numbers and in Google Sheet it works fine out of the box.

Salvatore,

Thank you for your time.

Indeed, the problem lies with Excel. It is a matter of the LineFeed character being misinterpreted by Excel.

Now that I am sure that Astrobin is returning correct data, I will be able to move forward with processing this data, but without Excel.

Francis
