So a scope I bought earlier this year, the Takahashi FCT-65D, turns out to have an inherent optical flaw in its 0.65x reducer that adds some coma to stars across the frame.  I've brought the issue to Takahashi's attention and, after consulting the factory, their answer is that there is no issue!  Apparently we're just supposed to be ok with stars that look this way.

My question to the community is: zooming in on the stars on this image, are they bothersome?  Would you have demanded a refund for a scope that produced these stars?

Important piece of context: this reducer was specifically advertised to produce round stars across a full-frame sensor.

*Ignore, its fixed.

Stars dont bother me at all, looks pretty good. Some suspect shapes in the corners but really not bad at all.

Looking at it at 100% stars look fine, zooming in further (never usually recommended) they look a bit diamond shaped. But not many scopes will produce nice tight round stars upon 250% inspection

They only bother me when looked at relative to the cost of a 60mm scope. I would have expected more from Tak…

Yeah, it’s a $760 reducer and a $1400 scope - and that’s AFTER tak USA recently reduced their prices.

But just to clarify I’m not being facetious with this thread. The star shapes were initially disappointing to me but I do like the FOV and speed of this scope. It made me overlook the misshapen stars, but sometimes when I look at the images I’m disappointed by the stars.
