I've been browsing for a few weeks and decided to join up as the site has helped me a lot.

I've been fascinated by the night sky since I was a kid but I've only ever used cheap wobbly refractor scopes in the past which have left me disappointed.

However I recently acquired a reasonably sized Dobsonian, that needs work, for £50 which, thanks to this site, I was able to identify as a Darkstar 8.75" 52"fl F5.9.

I'm an engineer to trade so I'm happy to do some DIY restoration and improvements on it.

Hi Shawn!
Very glad that you joined us.
A lot of us started with a wobbly refractor and I even tried AP with it which only led to a ton of frustration.
Happy that you found a good scope to check out the amazing beauty above us.
Very helpful folks here snd some amazing Astrophotography!

Hi All,

I'm completely new here, having just picked up a Sky Watcher Quattro 250 and EQ6-R and hoping to learn a few things as I get started. I had a small Newtonian when I was around ten years old, and had so much fun. I always wanted to get back into Astronomy, and as a photographer by profession, I am now waiting for an M48 camera adapter for my new scope and will start creating images as the skies clear in a few months. I will play around with scope, get used to setting it up, and perhaps photograph the moon for a while during the summer, then try to look deeper as conditions allow.

If any of the admins see this, your system just correctly identified that I am in Japan, but my welcome email was all in Simplified Chinese. Someone might want to look at that.
