Hello.

I'm French and my Chinese is very bad, but my English is not too bad. The script you want to use can only be used from version 1.9.x.

AstroBin has had a Translate button for a couple of months now, when it detects that some content is not in the language you use AstroBin in

Salvatore,

Can you point out the location of this button?   For some reason I can't see it when I'm reading this forum.

Thanks.

What PI version do you have? If it is 1.8.x then you need the version I provided the link before. As far as I can see the error you are getting is because the developer's signature is only valid for 1.9.x Not really sure whether using a VPN is an issue here.

Bottom right, next to the like button.

It's next to the Like button at the bottom of each post. But it appears only if the language is detected as something different than the language you use AstroBin in. Unfortunately it's not super reliable especially with short text, and when there are quotes (it reads the beginning, so if somebody quotes in English and replies in French below, the post will be detected to be English... I just realized this tho, so I'll add it to my list to exclude quoted blocks from the language detection!)

I think i saw somewhere that githubusercontent.com could be blocked in China so its worth a try.

I do.

So, just to clarify why this is not great at the moment:

The post by Zhaoyu Xu is not offering the Translate button because the length of the text is less than 20 characters.

Andrea's screenshot shows the offer to translate John's post because AstroBin is incorrectly counting the screenshot as characters of text, and then the thing detects as portuguese (because as I mentioned, detecting short text is really inaccurate at the moment).

Incidentally, Edge (at least on Win 11) will translate "in-situ" if you select the string of characters to translate. I haven't tried with FireFox but might work there too.

Chrome on MacOs here does the same. I select some text, right-click, and get "Translate selection in English". Good to know!

From what I've read, Edge for Win 11 is based on Chrome code so no surprise there…

Hi there,

This is an option if you are going to stick on the 1.8.x platform, however I will not be supporting this with any additional updates or features - just so ya know! 1.9.x appears to be pretty stable for most users and I would at this point recommend upgrading.

Got it.

Yes, I always thought my Pi was the latest version. My previous computer was 1.9, but I forgot that I switched to a new computer. It wasn't until I saw you say you wanted to use 1.9 that I remembered my new computer's version was 1.8. Thank you very much for your answer

I have identified the problem, it is that I did not use the latest version of PI, but thank you very much for your answer
