EDM + M-Up + EFCS

Hi all.

In this new episode of "Finally checking how things work after many years …", I am looking into the Nikon D810A Exposure Delay Mode in combination with Mirror Up and Electronic Front Curtain Shutter.

For DSO astrophoto, I set the camera to M* for the built-in long exposure times, connect a "dumb" remote trigger, choose M-Up mode and enable the EFCS. It seemed sufficient for camera vibrations mitigation with a 3 - 4" manual* delay between mirror release and imaging, but I now found guidelines recommending the use of the EDM too, which mitigates rear curtain shutter vibrations?

Anyone with experience on the matter could shed some light if it's worth the effort for a focal length of 1020mm max and subs ~60" (tbc after trials)?
If I understand correctly, I still need to manually* delay by 3 - 4" between M-Up and EFCS, but then EDM would kick in for an additional 1, 2 or 3"?

*I gave up on my programmable wireless intervalometer and only replaced it with a very simple trigger, I need to sort that out … or try tether/remote control, or ASIAIR Plus, I guess?

Ben,

When I do use the programmable remote I set up a 5s delay after mirror-up and that's it. It should work for you too, vibration wise. But I'm not using it except on a field trip which are very very rare nowadays. For every-night acquisition and having a laptop handy look no further than APT: https://astrophotography.app/

I've tried NINA but didn't work on my D5100 but might with your D810.

Thanks @andrea tasselli, I'm pricing possible upgrades so it's good to have options able to control both the DSLR and the ASI120Mini for autoguiding.
Plate solving and polar alignment I'm not too worried, I've always obtained good results manually, but it could be a plus.
