I’m a 60+ year old beginner from Järvenpää, Finland. Sometime in late 2023, I was walking with my 2 year old grandson late at night. He started asking me about the moon and stars, and I soon realized, to my chagrin, that I couldn't name a single star, let alone a planet. Later I downloaded Stellarium on my phone, after which we diligently followed Jupiter's passage across the sky. Then I bought a small Maksutov Cassegrain telescope, with which we observed Jupiter in more detail.
At the beginning of 2024, I started buying equipment for astrophotography, which turned out to be a long and laborious process. It wasn't until August that I was able to shoot the first few hours of footage with my IMX585 Touptek color camera. I am a linguist by training and have no experience in using complex observational equipment, therefore learning astrophotography is a big challenge for me. But right now it's the funniest thing I know!
