Sky-Watcher Evolux 62ED Refractors Buying Advice

I've been reading different reviews on this. Some claim it to be an excellent little telescope, others say they are suffering heavily from CA (especially on bright stars).

I'm currently considering a swap deal for one of my Samyang kits, I will have to get the flattener/reducer on the side which does cost a pretty penny.

Hoping to get some responses on this before I make my decision. The plan is to mainly use my 2600MC on it, unfiltered.

I had one for awhile, there are a few images from it in my bin. It's a nice reasonably priced little refractor however if you're going to use it with a 2600 then I would say that the reducer/flattener is a must. With my 585 chip, it didn't make much of a difference. Also, since you are shooting broadband you will absolutely need a Fringe Killer filter to tame the blue halos.

Thanks for replying, seems it might be best to avoid this scope then. The flattener is heavily discounted from a local vendor atm so it wouldn't be that bad of a deal though, the rest would be a clean swap with my Samyang. I have the option to shuffle my rigs if need be, but I'm very happy with my Esprit 100/2600MM combo at the moment and would prefer to avoid any added filter cost to my OSC if possible.

I use my Evolux 62ed as my travel scope. Fits in airline carry-on backpack with accessories.

It does have some blue fringing on very bright stars. I recently purchased a fringe filter but haven't tried it yet.

I'm happy with it so far for what I use it for. Easy grab and go. And inexpensive.

Appreciate it JB, I decided to pull the trigger on the SV231 filter myself. It didn't set me back that much with the current sales anyway so I'll be testing it whichever direction I go. I noticed the same issue at F/2 with the Samyang where the blue channel was slightly bloated compared to R/G. So it may prove useful either way despite my desire to go unfiltered. I can still do so with my E8HD anyway.

The two Evolux scopes do indeed suffer from CA–mainly in blue, resulting in blue fringing on brighter stars. Didn't notice a problem when shooting narrowband (HSO). I've shot with both scopes, using the matching flatteners. There are ways to deal with the blue fringing in processing, but it's more work. Sky-Watcher was a bit cheeky calling these two scopes apochromatic. Full disclosure–I shoot with SW's Esprit 80 and 100 refractors and find them excellent. The Evolux scopes just didn't measure up. Given their prices, I guess this shouldn't have been a surprise.

Not really, no. I'm very happy with the Esprit line as well. Passed on the deal and am keeping my dual Samyang setups for now. The filter might be handy for the OSC setup there as well, dealing with the blue stars.
