APT Workspace Organization

Imaged with APT 1 reply60 views

When using APT I always have several tools open while imaging such as Histograms, Session Craft and Cooling aid. I've been using APT for several years now and the tools I have open have not changed all that much. I use several other tools such as Magnifier, Point Craft and Autofucus Aid but these are only open for a short time so don't clutter the screen for too long. This brings me to my issue. I like to be organized when I can but APT doesn't offer the ability to organize your open tools in any reasonable way so I find corners of the screen to push the open tools to so I can see the imaging that is happening as well a easily monity the tool. Below is about as organized as my working screen normally gets. I have Cooling Aid open bottom right where Auto Focus Aid is for illustration.

It occurs to me that it would be great to be able to nest open tools in a tab bar above the log and below the current image such as tabs in an internet browser or the explorer windows down the left side of Pixinsight. The tools would expand when the tab is hovered over and there could be another icon in the top right corner of the tool next to the close x that could pin the tool open. You could also grab the title of the tool and drag it away from the bar to become a floating tool again like the tools are now. A floating tool could then be dragged back to the tab bar and dragged and reordered along (left and right) of the tab bar as needed just like tabs in a web browser.

Just a suggestion

Hi Michael,

Many thanks for your suggestion! I really like the idea and will implement something in this direction

I'm wondering if something we have for the DB Browser could work?

If we make more (maybe most of the Aids) to have minimize mode and remembering the minimized position it will be easy one to stack them like in PixInsight Also hovering could open the fill window size to take a look, going away to minimize it again... Till + button is clicked to restore the window?
