Hi. I use the Celestron c8 edge Hd optical tube for AP. Objects that remain relatively small in space, etc. Which of the mount in the title give the best performance? It's not important for me being too heavy. I just want the best performance. I think the weight of the tube and equipment more or less reaches 8-9 kg. Also i have seen that some people are having a backlash problem on iOptron. I'm not good with mechanics. So I don't want to deal with mechanics often after I get it. If anyone can write with information or advice, I will be happy. Have a good day.

Hi, I can only tell from my personal experience, I have an EQ6-R Pro and an AZ-EQ6 Pro (or GT) but no iOptron mount. My AZ-EQ6 runs better/smoother and feels more robust than the EQ6-R.

I have a EQ6R-Pro, an Altas (EQ6), a CGX and an IOptron CEM70EC. The IOptron needed adjustment. 2 allen keys, very simple, no disassembly required. The EQ6R-Pro needed adjustment as did the Atlas. Dissassembly was required…After adjustments, both of these mountings are solid performers. Both the CGX and CQX-L required reworking in a machine shop and still don't guide as well as any of the other mounts. MyT mounting was perfect out of the shipping container…

I hope this helps…

*Thank you. I've seen a lot of people praising the eq6r pro. I've also seen a lot of iOptron with a backlash problem( at least Cem70G). This caused me to get cold feet from iOptron because I don't really like to deal with the mechanical part of the job. But if I look at what you said, iOptron seems to be the most logical option. Have you ever encountered a backlash problem? Some said that they solved it, while others said that they could not completely solve the problem, but they could improve it a little. As far as I understand, this is an arduous mechanical job. My mechanical knowledge is also very little.

Yes I did have a backlash problem with my IOptron. I just purchased a CEM70ECNuc model. Out of the box it had bad backlash in RA. The online manual had a well written, easy to follow instructions on how to adjust out the backlash. All you need is two Allen keys and adjustments are made thru access holes in the mounting. No disassembly required. Very easy to do. No mechanical skills required. I would not let that stop you on your decision. Don't get me wrong, I love the EQ6R-Pro and EQ6(Atlas). But these mountings are using dated tech. The EQ6R-Pro has updated to belt drive but the mechanics of the mounting haven't changed in 30+ years. The CEM's with the plunger approach to worm gear meshing is new and much easier to adjust for optimum meshing...

BTW I am working on two DEEP targets. EQ6R-PRO/WOGT81/2600mcPro ALP-T filter 1200sec subs (round stars - not one sub lost to guiding error) and the IOptron CEM70ECNuc/WO132FLT/2600mmPro 1200sec subs (new mounting, still dialing in PHD2, first mounting with an encoder) currently keeping 80% of captured subs...

*Thank you so much. That really helped. Because almost everywhere I saw, most people said that they were opening the inside of the mount and playing with the straps. If it is in the  user manual as you said, it would be really easy. Thanks again ☺️

I didnt have the strap issue I had to adjust the plunger on the RA clutch switch… I am not sure about the belt adjustment. The plunger adjustment was easy to do and solved my problem…

I do have 3 ioptrons, CEM70G, GEM28EC, and GEM45. All 3 working as one would expect or as it is specified. CEM70G is always (3year)  out on the peer , just wrapped. Sun, rain snow,….it just works . There is Esprit 120 (around 16kg) rig on it , and guiding RMS is in 0.3 -0.5" most of the time… I had SW mount before , but CEM70 is different class compared with EQ6 . (my private opinion) .

*Thanks. Seems like the Cem70G and C8EdgeHD duo is probably a good combination. Especially if objects that remain relatively small in the sky.

I have a Celestron CGX, in use for four years. After the initial tuning the mount not have problems, the go-to is very precise and the tracking, with guide, is aroud 0,3-0,6 px rms. The belt is yet the original. The original tripod is very very bad. I am very satisfy, on mount i have two APO refractor an 110/530 mm and an 70/350 mm, total  weight with camera and guidescope 15 kg.

My Personal opinion and experience: I had the EQ6R and also CEM45 and CEM 70. The EQ6R performed better than the iOptron and even better than the CEM70 loading it with an Esprit 150. Now I have an AZ-EQ6R and it performs even better than the EQ6R (tot RMS 0.3").
Many factors of course come into play but I feel to stick with the SW eq mount if your main concerns are performance and reliability.

Thats sayin somethin right there.    I'm slinging an Esprit 150 on my EQ6 currently as well and I swear the EQ6 doesn't even care that it's overloaded.   I've had as low as 0.2" in good seeing.

*Actually  back a few years ago when I bought the Esprit 150 and loaded onto the EQ6R the mount was handling incredibly well. BUT I then decided to sell the EQ6R and buy a CEM70 hoping to get even better results due to the higher payload the CEM had. And that was a BIG mistake. I regretted selling the EQ6R and this is why now I have the AZ-EQ6 Pro
