Hello and welcome I'd like to ask everyone who knows a way of method to merge 2 astrophotography images into one. I have 2 separate images I captured with my Seastar s50 of the horsehead nebula and the flame nebula. The first time I tried to capture them both, there were fewer starts in the area where I tried, and Seastar couldn't do more exposure times. So I had to do them separately. Does anyone know how to merge astrophotography images?

You can do this in Affinity Photo using the Panorama function. It's very easy since both images are taken at the same focal length. Affinity should blend them together perfectly.

Also Microsoft ice might be worth a look for a beginner

Search how to make an astro photography mosaic. Mosaic is the word used to to combine or merge two images together to make one big image. Also the word stitch is sometimes used. Stitch to images together to make one big image.
To do it well you will need the unprocessed FIT file from the SeaStar. The mosaic can be made with the jpeg files but getting the gradients correct could be difficult.
Many software programs can stitch images together but they usually do not work correctly with astro photography images because there is not enough contrast to align the images.
The only free software I know that can make astro photography mosaics is called ASTAP. What software do you have?

I used Microsoft ice for this 4 panel of Cygnus loop and I think it turned out well for a beginner like myself. I'm certain pixinsight or other tools may well have better results
