Hi,

I recently got interested in Solar photography. After some research, I'll probably get a DayStar Quark (Chromosphere) as filter in combination with an ERF.
Now my question before buying the ERF is:

Which telescope should I get it for? I have an 80/480mm F6 refractor, and a 5" (FL 1900mm) F15 Maksutov, plus ASI224MC and ASI678MC. Which of these scopes is better suited? Or are they both not very useful for Solar, and I should just get a different one?

Thank you,
Johannes

If you are buying a Quark, the 80mm refractor will be just fine for starting, and instead of a full front mounted ERF you can use a 1,25" backmounted ERF https://player-one-astronomy.com/product/erf-1-25-filter-s-series-for-quark-chromosphere/ that screws infront of the quark.
For Solar, a monochrome camera is best suited, yes you can take ok images with an OSC but mono is day and night difference.

That's interesting, it sounds like a good alternative. Eventually I will upgrade to a mono planetary camera, but I tried imaging planets/moon a few times with my 533MM and was just so annoyed by the amount of work that came with it, I'll stick with OSC for now.
