Just wondering what unique and unusual objects others have captured. I consider 4 from my astrobin page to fit in this category.

61 Cygni / AB Binary (The Flying Star)
The Stargate Cluster
M87 with Relativity Jet
Draco Trio

I enjoy adding items like this to my capture list so if you have any ideas please share. Thanks.

Update: here are 4 more that I found that I have added to my "Unique List" but have not yet captured

NGC 4038/4039 Double Antennae Galaxies
IC 1101 (Galaxy 1B LY from Earth with 1T Stars)
CG4/NGC 2427 (God's Hand)

Sometimes I also try to post some unusual objects.

Examples:
- far away quasars around galaxy NGC3628
- twin quasar QSO0957+561A/B
- current supernovas (eg. SN2021gmj in NGC3310)
- ​current bright comets (eg. Neowise)
- moon and sun eclipses
- planets constellation (eg. Christmas stars)
- idea for an exoplanet (eg. HD189733b)

A good question. My understanding was of any object not commonly imaged, covered in articles or of strange shapes would fit the category.

It's a very subjective concept and there are a number of astrophotographers who concentrate on objects that have rarely or never been imaged before. I definitely recommend following Gary Imm, Peter Goodhew and Marcel Drechsler if you aren't already (Marcel is actively hunting for undiscovered targets, by the way). I'd also recommend following the Unusual/Unique Targets group as well as the First on Astrobin group (aka. the Gary and Peter show).

At any rate, the targets I've shot that I consider unique/unusual: PuWe1, MWP1, IPHASX J015624.9+652830, Sh1-89, Kronberger 61, Jacoby 1, Böhm-Vitense 5-1, HDW3 and Sh2-123.
Honorable mention targets: WR 134, Abell 72, Abell 39, Jones-Emberson 1, Hoag's Object, HDW2, HFG1/Abell 6 (need to reshoot), Egg Nebula, NGC 7026, Jones 1 (need to reshoot), NGC 6781.

Thank you Chris for your post and I completely agree that the 'unique/rare objects' are subjective to each individual. Searching and capturing such objects brings a new challenge to astrophotography that's away from the mainstream targets.

I'm already following Gary and I will also follow Peter and Marcel to continue the hunt.

I've got another one that probably fits in this category- the Dengel-Hartl 5 nebula - a very faint O3 and Ha emission nebula in Cepheus.  I needed 38 hours to get some depth on it. You can see it in my Astrobin link:

I am trying to image IC-10 from home, and the really faint SH2-227. Tough targets! Also had posted MWP1 recently from my backyard.
