Introducing the Asiair Plus/Mini Sleeves (3D Printed, this is not an ad for a commercial product).

Hello,

Here is a project I am working on.  I am talking about it now because I want to gather comments and suggestions.  I have bought some of those cable management "things" for my Asiair Plus and I have been unhappy with them, I am talking about the two brackets that slide at each end of the device.  They keep moving when I arrange my cables, they will slide in one direction or another and although they do help with cable management, I couldn't stop thinking there could be a better way.

So I have designed the Asiair Sleeve wich will simply slide over the Asiair.   Before anybody starts wondering how much they are gonna cost, let me say right away that I will not sell them, once the design is finished, I will post the stl file on printables.com and/or some other sites so anyone can print it.

So here's some pictutes of the first prototype.  It looks a little rough because it is, I printed it in draft mode because it's just that.....a prototype.   This will serve as a base.  My plan is to come up with some kind of attachments for the flat portion on top that could be used to attach just about anything.

What I have in mind for now is cable management and an attachment for my Pegaus Pocket Box Micro.  The way I imagine this is a series of holes on the top, with recesses underneat for nuts so any of the accessories can be attached anywhere, allowing all kind of possibilities, similar to a peg board.

All the attachment designs I come up with will also be shared on Printables and my hope is that other people will design attachments or modified versions of this base and share them as well.  The one shown here is for the Asiair Plus.  Once I am happy with it I will make one for the Asiair Mini.

You will notice in the last picture that plastic "band" is a little too close to the 12v plug, it will be corrected in the next iteration.   It is a little tight currently, not enough to stretch/break it or damage the Asiair.  Let me know what you think, would you rather have a tight sleeve that stays in place on its own (this one does) or something a little more loose but held with screws.

Let me know what you think, all comments and suggestions are welcome.   In any case, if nobody cares, that's ok, I am having fun anyway

Looks well so far, I would probably do that particular build as a two piece as long as you're using a lower end printer (like myself). I'm currently playing around with different designs to my setup as well and this has actually been on my drawing board. Not exactly this, but some version of it incorporating the known cable management bits. So far though I've been working around it, bad image from the phone but you get the idea. I'll probably still work on the Asiair

The only concern is whether that sleeve causes the ASIair to over heat and throttle? Otherwise I like it.

I thought about this and figured it can be worst than the metal case of the unit itself but you're probably right.  The heat would normally dissipate around but the sleeve might stop it.   I wanted something that gives as much surface as possible for attachments but I should make it more open for the heat to exit.

Thx for the comment.
