I have just finished this image shooting it with an IDAS NBZ Nebula Filter and my ZWO ASI294MC Pro OSC camera. I have shot this in the past with an l-enhance filter (https://www.astrobin.com/w0dal8/) and had a nice image but realized that the OIII was just beginning to show so thats when I bought the IDAS filter stated above.  (From what I understand this filter was the IDAS equivalent to the l-extreme) The OIII is showing itself much better however its not what I would have thought it should have been with nearly 6hrs of data. I’ve seen several images here on AB with less data taken with these filters with much more OIII in the final image using APP.

I have been told by a “friend” that I could bring the OIII out much better with processing, but I’m not a very technical software guy and haven’t really gotten into much complicated processing.

I used APP with the HA/OIII Color/RGGB/Force Bayer option/RGB Channels and allowed APP to do its thing. Once I had the image I used Gimp to finish out my workflow of Levels/Curves/Color Balance/a bit of Noise Reduction/Sharpening/Saturation/Star Reduction and finally a small tweak in colors.

Darks: 30
Flats: 30
Dark Flats:30
Bias: 30

Lights range from 180s-240s with the latter being most of the data.

In APP there is an option to “extract OIII” I’m wondering if this could be used to reprocess all the data to extract the OIII and then somehow add/combine that into the original image to bring out the OIII better? So I guess if that is a possibility I’d have all the data processed for the final image in the “HA/OIII color” and an image with the “Extract OIII” and then add/combine the 2 images and process them?
If so how would you do that? If not what would you suggest to bring out more OIII?

ANY and ALL suggestions are welcome!  Thanks in advance!

BTW I know this image is far from being perfect so go ahead and tell me your honest thoughts!

Hello Alan,
Thanks for your reply! So how would I as you say “split the channels”? I assume in APP somehow? I have seen some wonderful images of this object with less data and pretty much the same setup, so this is what makes me think they are doing something different in the processing of this object.

The process your describing, is there a video that your aware of with the process?

Thanks!

Oh and your image looks very good! truly! Don't be too hard on yourself But I can understand you want to improve with a new challenge getting the OIII more to your taste;)

Thank you Allan!
Yes I’d like to pull out as much as I can. The biggest thing I’m unhappy with is the OIII data.

Thanks

Maybe this will do the trick in APP. I just do it in PixInsight. In photoshop you can go to channels and select the channel and copy it into another image.

Ok thanks Allan! I will give this a try later on this afternoon and see how it works out for me.

I’ll post it if I like the results 😊

Well after doing a lot of watching videos and trial and error I think I was able to bring out the OIII data better. I’m still not 💯 happy but much happier than I was originally. I’m going to continue to work on this more but here is a new revision to my original image I posted.

Yes It worked out quite well! Looking at it side by side it is a significant boost to the OIII data. Well done!

Hello Allan,
Yes I’m quite pleased with it! I’m going to go back and try some more things with it to see if I can get it better yet if I get time this weekend.

Allan, thanks again or all your help and suggestions!
