Eyepiece stuck in Diagonal at an angle

Hi all

I had the unfortunate experience of getting a 20mm eyepiece stuck in my diagonal last night (not to mention clouds coming in, humidity, and lightning in the distance - made for a very short hour and a half). It went in a bit crooked and my attempts to straighten, I’m afraid, made it even worse. I just can’t get them separated. I sprayed some WD40 around where they meet. I’m going to let that sit a while. I took off the back of the diagonal and removed the mirror, also. My contingency is to try carefully push the eyepiece out with a flat head screwdriver, being especially careful to not let it slip and scratch the eyepiece glass.

Anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,

Can you post an image? I'm not sure if I fully understand what happened given your description.

Never mind. I got it out. It was a Televue diagonal, a good one block of aluminum. I turned it upside down and carefully brought it down on to my work bench and it popped out. The compression ring sits in the grooves a little far back so the lip of the groove catches the eyepiece insert tube, a bit. I might try another diagonal with this eyepiece instead.
