Hi,

How you stack frames with less stars to register in alignment process?

I used DSS for such tiny FOV it throws error not enough stars for alignment and discard all frames only stacks 1.
Solution for that problem?

Particularly when using small exposures there aren't any bright stars in frame.
and when FOV is too narrow for targets like galaxies or planetary nebulae.

Use Siril. You'd still need at least 1 star bright enough to register in all the frames. And no rotation between frames nor change of image scale.

Totally agreed: Siril is a head over DSS. I DSS you may try to play with options and change per centage of stars needed, but be carefull -if you go to far-stupid DSS may find 10000000000000 stars, mistakenly using pixels ibstead real stars and the process nay take few hours or never end…. Outdated program, switch to Siril -much better option

Drop the star detection down as far as you can. I think it’s 2 percent. I used to have this same problem. Usually when I bring it down to its lowest setting it would stack all the frames. Unless focus is really bad or trailing is really bad.

You can also adjust the brightness of your raw/fits to 'bring out' more stars if they're there, just too dim to detect.  I had to do this recently when doing lucky imaging with my planetary camera.

What he says …

Lower the star detection threshold (minimum is 2%) so DSS can detect more stars. Around 100 stars is a good number.

Also, if that does not work, increase star brightness in the RAW/FITS settings to 3 or 4.

I have used DSS for many years and it works very well, just experiment with the parameters.

Later I use Siril for other tasks, like extracting and compositing.
