Hi, my name is Marcos, I live in Southeastern Brazil under Bortle 4-5 skies, in a town called Petrópolis just off Rio de Janeiro.
I have just started learning AP. I have learned a lot of theory and bought some gear but have hardly practiced anything at all due to cloudy nights.
On the very few clear nights I had I was able to do a few polar alignments (with Asiair Pro) and did one guided session just to learn the process, not aiming at anything specific and using a wide angle lens.
All this was enough to get acquainted with walking noise and learn why that happened. The best way to learn is really practicing and making lots of mistakes – they are among the best teachers, I think.
I learned the basic steps to stack dark, bias and light frames in DeepSkyStacker and now I’m waiting for some clear skies to try the first images using a DSLR, a telephoto lens and a tracker.
I’m not new to telescopes (I build my first telescope 20 years ago, an 8” Dobsonian, useless for AP but great for observation) and have some experience with DSLR photography, especially landscape. Now with all this travel limitation AP was the natural next step and I’m glad I have tons of things to learn to keep my mind busy for years with something other than work.
I also tend to write a lot, so I’d better stop here. 😊
Hope to learn a lot here, contribute with what I learn and hopefully with images soon.
Cheers and Clear Skies.
