Field rotation for DSLR + lens astrophotography

Hello, I'm facing some problems here because of framing. As i do screw my DSLR body right into the dovetail plate with a 1/4 inch screw, and i do use a lens in the front of it, my framing and field rotation is always the same, parallel to the DEC axis. I'm planning to image the blue horsehead nebula and it stays half on frame, and I simply can't rotate it to frame it on the correct way. I need to rotate it almost 90º to achieve a "perfect" framing option.
I thought about buying one of those rings that hold the lens at its equilibrium point, (which would also solve the problem of unbalancing the DEC axis) - I am attaching a picture of it here. I don't know if it is the ideal choice though; I was thinking if anyone here has an idea of a DIY option, so I can save a bit of my budget. It can be another dovetail, something with clamps, or anything that I can use for rotating the field.

Thanks in advance,
Olga

Hi Olga,

It is the best choice if the barrel of your lens is a good fit to the holder (you don't say what lens you're planning to use). If you happen too have access to a bench drill and a piece of L-shaped bracket you could drill two holes of the right size (say M6), add two 1/4" bolts and you have rotated the whole set-up by 90 degrees, if this helps you framing the subject.
