just starting in this endeavor with astrophotography.  i have been shooting darks only so far but will start shooting flats and looks like bias frames.  I edit in APP. there is a looong discussion on the APP forum but i'm still a bit confused as to what is needed and hoping that i have the following right.  Please correct in not!

darks and lights:  same iso, same temp, and exposure;  i shoot the darks after the lights are done

flats:  my main take away from the APP discussion is make sure the exposure time is at least 0.5-1.0 secs, iso doesn't need to match darks/lights iso, same focus as darks lights

bias:  iso: match flat frames iso value; fastest shutter speed and view finder and lens cap on

if i match the bias frames to the flats then that should take care of any vignettes and i don't need to shoot flat darks.

do i have this right?

thanks!

Hi
everything sound pretty good to me, just few little things…

Darks and Lights: OK

Flat: be sure the flat files are not overexposed, I use 1/4sec 100iso and they always worked well with APP, but depend on how fast is the telescope and how bright is the flat panel that you are using.
You will need a dark flat anyway if the exposure time is too long or iso to high

Bias: OK

Sorry to interfere,
My lights are IS0800, my flats and bias, as you recommended, are 1/4 sec at ISO100.
Flats histogram is slightly over middle, bias same ISO as flats.
DSS complains that the flats and bias are not the same ISO value as the lights.
Can this basically be ignored?
The stacking result is okay though.

Cheers

You can ignore that, I used DSS for a wile before switching to APP and always used Flat at 100 iso

Bad Dark Files, artifact, error (and in some Light frames)
I noticed with some Dark files that they have a strange artifact. It looks like Light leaks in from somewhere, but it is consistent. It doesn't matter if I take them in Pitch black or with different Objectives. But it doesn't happen all the t...

Let's discuss about dark, bias, dark-flats...
Let me explain myself, dudes. Is there some kind of rule where you see how many darks and flats are convenient for a stack? Here each one does the number of dark and flat takes that they want/consider. Some say that more quantities are better (leavin...

Matching darks to deal with "amp glow"
