I thought I'd introduce myself to the folks whose work I have admired & aspired to since I started my Astro journey 3 years ago.
My friends know me as Tony & I live in Sth. East Queensland (sometimes referred to as 'the sunshine state') Australia.
I'm mature aged
, I live with & care for my 93 yr old Father & my other interests include fishing, golf & keeping a couple of old BMW's running although Astrophotography now takes up almost all of my spare time. It all started when my Dad bought me a DVD about the HST introduced by Professor David Meyer which rekindled an interest in space I'd had as a child. I decided to look for a cheap 2nd hand telescope to see what the Moon looked like first hand & maybe even try to find Jupiter or Saturn even. I ended up paying $50 for 90mm Achromat on an old equitorial mount, the deal included some "quality eyepieces" I was told as the vendor handed me a small box, "this one's perfect for Planets" he said as he gestured towards one of them (it was an SR4, which I later found to contain no glass at all)
. I hurried home to set it all up & after much confusion I actually was able to train it on Saturn & bring it to focus , not with the SR4 though. The view of Saturn through a Huygens 12.5mm eyepiece had me captivated. A month later I bought a Celestron C8 followed by my first apochromat, a 4" Synta Doublet, a year later came my first astrophoto , M42 of course. Two years later, my first image on Astrobin https://www.astrobin.com/users/Ant0nio/. I hope to add many more as time passes. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading & clear skies to all.
Best,
Antonio
