Hello all

My name’s Jeff. Living in Zurich, Switzerland, we (family and I) got our first telescope back in April 2020. We had been very interested in all things Astronomy, Space Exploration, Science, and the Universe in general for a long time and figured that it was time to get that telescope. And the first month of our local pandemic-induced lockdown seemed as good as any time to get started.

The telescope in question is a Celestron 8 Edge HD on an Evolution Alt Az mount, we have always been a fan of SCTs. We are observing and imaging under Bortle 6 skies from our terrace. Have received Hyperstar v4 for the C8 3 weeks ago and the 0.7x reducer is also the waiting to be picked up at the local Astro retailer of my choice. Am using ZWO’s ASI294MC Pro and ASIAir Pro to control it all (imaging and EAA) and PixInsight for image processing. The learning curve is not looking like an overhang anymore, but is still impressive. Luckily I like a good challenge once in a while 😁.

I also have used a WO SpaceCat 51 from July to November, which was a lot of fun. In fact, my first ever DSO image (which was also my first one uploaded here) was shot on the SpaceCat last November, using a non-cooled ASI290MC. With the arrival of Hyperstar however, I have decided to focus on using the main telescope to its full potential for the time being (and avoid overloading my selective brain).

I am looking forward to sharing my imaging and learning experiences here with you on Astrobin.

Thank you for having me and also for all the inspiration I have already been able to see here.

RC8/RASA8 or EdgeHD8 + Hyperstar?
Alright fellas, Here is the situation; as of now I have an RC8 and RASA8 as my two major telescopes. Lately I have been thinking of trading them out for just an EdgeHD 8 system. I won't consider any larger aperture so there's no point trying ...

Howdy From Wyoming!
I've been interested in nature, wildlife, and scenic photography all my adult life. But the first time I pointed my camera at the sky (deliberately, anyway) was the 2017 solar eclipse. I was in the 98% totality zone, so I bought my first piece of...
