Seeking opinions on a non-SCT for imaging

Hello All

I have been imaging a few years in my observatory with a C11" EdgeHD and an 80mm Stellarvue APO triplet piggybacked onto it.  My C11" is now having issues so I am exploring options for a high quality scope (any design) to be my main imaging scope.  The C11" EdgeHD is very popular but I am getting tired of the image shift and flop.  I am thinking in the $3-5k price range.

If you can still find them I'd suggest a 10" Russian Maksutov or Maksutov-Newton (if the mount is up to it), probably second hand for the price but who knows. Otherwise there are a number of RCs (e.g. GSO) out there that should fit the bill. If you want to go fast go for a corrected newton.

Hi Bruce,
You might want to send  John Hayes a private email, he is an extremely knowledgeable optical engineer who solved those issues quite a while back on his C14. He might offer some suggestions that will help before you abandon the instrument.

Regards,
Dave

Thanks, Dave.  I have actually communicated with John in the past.  I'll reach out to him.

Thanks, Andrea.  I should have mentioned the mount.  I have an AP1100 which should be able to handle it.    I'll start looking around and hopefully John Hayes will get back to me in the meantime.

I am just discouraged as it always seems to be something and removing my scope which is 10 feet above my observatory floor is not any easy thing to do.
