Hi folks,
I'm fairly new to astrophotography and even newer to AstroBin. I've had an interest in astronomy since I was a kid gawping at the amazing Hubble images in whatever astronomy books I could find, had a couple of cheap telescopes over time, and started considering astrophotography a few years ago, but it wasn't until recently that I was lucky enough to be able to get a big start in it and began getting the necessary gear. I've only been imaging since early October 2020, so I still have much to learn. I haven't even gotten into doing calibration images or multi-night imaging sessions yet…
I've done all of my imaging (available for viewing on my AstroBin gallery) so far from a front yard/driveway on the cusp of Bortle 6-5 skies on the outskirts of the Chicago metro area. I'm using a Sky-Watcher HEQ5 mount with guiding and options already for a few different scopes (including an 8" Newt and the ZenithStar 73 APO) and cooled mono cameras (with a range of LRGB and SHO filters) depending on the target. I plan to eventually add to my scope lineup, but I'd like to wait a little while before doing so. (Plus, everything is sold out these days.) I look forward to doing lots more imaging ahead (when skies permit) and I hope you enjoy my work as I try to improve! You can follow my progress here or on my Instagram at astro_titanic.
When I'm not fiddling with the telescope, I spend big chunks of my time researching and virtually modeling the RMS Titanic for the video game project "Titanic: Honor and Glory." And when I'm not doing that, I like to dabble in 3D printing.
Cheers and clear skies to all,
Kyle
