NGC 3114 is a bright open cluster located in the southern Milky Way, in the constellation of Carina, and is visible to the naked eye.

NGC 3114 is a rather rich and extensive cluster, with about 200 stars brighter than magnitude 12. Its distance is estimated at around 2970 light-years, placing it on the inner edge of the Orion Arm and well beyond the edges of the Gum Nebula.

The cluster lies in a location poorly obscured by interstellar dust and is therefore easy to study. Its age is estimated at around 124 million years, although previous estimates have differed significantly. It also contains some red giants, evolved from hot, massive stars that have exited the main sequence. Among the numerous components are some stars with peculiar spectral characteristics, such as the Ap stars, characterized by slow rotations and an overabundance of certain metals, a Be star, and some "blue stragglers," likely the result of the merger of two very close stars.

NGC 3114 was first discovered by James Dunlop in 1826 through a 9-inch reflecting telescope, when he was superintendent of the New South Wales Observatory in Australia. John Herschel later re-observed it and included it in his General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters under number 2007.
