The Flaming Star Nebula and the Tadpoles Nebula

IC 405: The Flaming Star Distance: 1,500 light-years. What it is: A nebula illuminated by an "intruder" star (AE Aurigae). Phenomenon: The star was not born here but is speeding through the gas after being ejected from Orion, creating a violent and visible bow shock.

IC 410: The Tadpoles Distance: 12,000 light-years. What it is: A massive stellar nursery surrounding a young cluster (NGC 1893). Phenomenon: Winds from the young stars sculpt dense gas pillars (the "tadpoles"), which are sites of star formation currently being eroded by radiation.

Technical Details: Photos taken with a Skywatcher Esprit 120ED refractor at 648mm focal length on a Wave 150i mount. Camera: Nikon Z7 (astro-modified/refiltered by EOS For Astro) with Antlia Quad Band filter. Exposure: 7 hours total (84 x 300s). Calibration: 84 darks, 84 flats, 84 bias. Management: Setup managed via Asiair Plus and ZWO EAF. Guiding: Acuter 80/400mm guide scope and ASI678MM camera.

Software used: PixInsight (BlurXT, NoiseXT, StarXT, NarrowbandNormalization), darktable, GIMP on Linux. Location: Hamois, Belgium (Bortle 4 sky). Date: Night of December 25–26, 2025.
