Very cool tutorial, thanks for sharing :-)

I've been doing astrophotography for almost 7 years now and while generally speaking I'm pretty happy with my galaxy work, I still struggle with colour on NB images. I think this will help.

For someone without having of a math brain I could kind of follow that. Fascinating insight into working in a non-linear space. Many thanks :-)

A question for my understanding: if I multiply Ha with (1-OIII) I emphasize Ha everywhere, but not in the OIII region?

That's the idea. Technically you're de-emphasizing Ha everywhere (because you're multiplying each pixel with a value less than 1). If the OIII background is close to 0.2, you'll be multiplying every pixels by 0.8 or less. The pixels where OIII is strong (let's say a value of 0.7) will be particularly de-emphasized (multiplied by 0.3).
You can decide how de-emphasized you want Ha to be depending on the region by applying a contrast curve on (a copy of) OIII.
Since you're de-emphasizing Ha everywhere, it is important to add xxx*OIII so that the channel isn't weaker than the other channels (the sum of the factors shouldn't be less/greater than 1)
