How do you store your Newtonian Scopes?

Hello,

I'm just curious to find out how others store their scopes, in particular their newtonians. At the moment I simply place mine vertially on the floor, but I'm consious it may get knocked over, or even get damaged over time with the weight of the accessories.

Unfortunately I don't have any shelf space for it so it'll have to stay here for a while longer, but I'm just wondering how others store them.

Cheers.

I usually just keep mine on the mount so that I won't have to set it up every time. However, I got a padded bag for my 130pds some months ago and it is excellent both for carrying and storing. The brand is Oklop and they have a variety of sizes.

On a cupboard when it's dry again.
All caps on as this in my cellar and spiders love to move into the tubes for a while 😉

When in use on the mount, either pointing North or to the zenith. When not in use upright. Long storage times do nothing to any of it if the right precautions are taken (such sealing as to prevent the ingress of little critters, no damp and cover the front end with a sturdy cotton cloth to allow the innard to "breath").

My 14" Newtonian stays outside on its Dobson mount ca 300 days per year. Covered with a motorbike cover and a shed on wheels!

Mine sits with a cap and a plastic bag over the end pointed straight up.  I only do that to minimize floor space so that it can sit in a corner of my office.   If you really want to minimize dust on the mirrors, there's a pretty good argument to be made that storing the scope horizontally is your best bet.  That's how I park my remote 20".  Dust is heavier than air so keeping the mirrors oriented with surfaces vertical (and the secondary pointed shiny-side down) will minimize the amount of dust that will collect over time.

I have my 10" Newtonian parked pointing up, inside a case with paddings specific for Newtonian telescopes(TS-Optics) with the dust cap on.

I keep my 6" atsrograph in a Pelican 1660 case, with dessicants. The case is big and takes up a lot of space in my den, but I know that my (a bit expensive) OTA is safe and dry all the time. Also, the case has enough space for the camera, guidescope and filterwheel.

I always have one scope on the mount and I keep my two others in oversize ziplock bags to keep the dust out. I lay them gently on my spare bed so they are nice and comfortable.

Thanks for your replies guys, some good advice here regarding keeping it covered. I would have thought that the cap would be enough, but I'm sure dust will find it's way in! smile Looks like I'll be investing in some bags soon.

How many of you own more than one telescope?
I'm curious how many telescopes imagers typically own. I personally run two in Chile but I also have 3 other small scopes kicking around my shop for visual use. If you've got more that one, what are they? John
