Who uses SharpCap to do polar alignment with their main imaging camera?

Just wondering if anyone does this?  I've just moved my guiding camera to an OAG and it has a really restricted FOV.  I used to use it for polar alignment when I had it connected to a separate finder scope, but now I am left with my main camera that only has a 1 degree field of view.  Will it work?

Hi @Andy Wray
I think you meant SharCap. I'm sorry I can't help you. I use QHY's Polemaster (with its own camera) for polar alignment.

It depends on how close you are to the pole. It should potentially work if you're close enough based on my experience.

I use SharpCap sometimes.  840mm focal length, no problem.  No idea your setup but it should be fine.  I use an OAG, haven't tried using it for PA but I want to sometime.  Just isn't critical to try it out smile

I use SharpCap with my main rig with a 1200mm fl and it works great!

Thanks all .. I tried it tonight and at 1000mm with an ASI1600MM it was fine.  Slower than using my old guide scope because of the extra resolution, but still worked fine.

SharpCap Pro works great. I used it for years, but have stopped using it in favor of N.I.N.A.’s Three Point Polar Alignment plugin.
TPPA works fabulously and doesn’t require a view of the CNP.
I’ve let my SharpCap subscription expire.

I just started using SharpCap Pro for polar alignment using my Altair 294C and my 600mm fl  telescope. Has worked great and increased my tracking accuracy quite a bit!

1200 mm FL did not work for me.

Same here. I've used SharpCap polar alignment at 1200mm with no problems.

I've never heard of using a guide scope for PA. I only ever use my imaging scope. I started out using the PA tool in SharpCap, but I now much prefer the 3 point PA plugin for NINA. Effortless! And my FOV is less than a degree with my imaging scope and camera combo (ASI2600 and a 1050mm FL).
