New member seeking guidance on astrophotography imaging setup

I am a new member as of today and trying to get familiar with the site and meet new members.

I am new to imaging, and after 7 years of studying and acquiring equipment ( with many breaks in between), I finally decided to go full out and get going. I found out I needed to have a permanent setup and recently installed my system in a remote observatory. I have everything up and running after so much learning, and am now just doing the last thing- getting my tilt adjusted. This has been a cumbersome evolution of trial and error, but tonight I think it will be acceptable, and it’s off to doing real imaging…. Not just test shots.

So I joined Astrobin to learn more and share with others about my dream hobby, and hope one day I can have some images like the incredible ones I see on this site.

It would help me now to get direction from members on how best to use Astrobin, especially with things like exposures for my particular setup, from those who have similar equipment.

I use SGP for acquisition, and am currently studying modules for Pixinsight for processing. I have finally passed the WBPP parts and am getting into the nitty-gritty.

I don’t know if you can access my equipment page, but I am using the following:

AP130 GTX, AP Mach2 mount on custom pier, TCC-3 (f/5) compressor/flattener, Moonlite NC 3.5 focuser/rotator, and Moravian 61000 C3 EC Pro camera, with its filter wheel and OAG, and Lodestar Pro guide camera, chroma BB, and NB filters, and DeepSkyDad flip flat. My image scale is 1.19”/pixel.

I am trying to figure out how to search images others have done with similar equipment and image scale so I can look at exposure times of subs, and other useful info to help me not waste time with trial and error, if that is possible.

Sincerely,

John L (Nightbound)

Well you certainly started with the very best equipment you can buy. Move along, nothing to suggest here :-)

Except for maybe getting a Wanderer Astro Electronic Tilt Adjuster (ETA) to automatically, remotely, dial out any remaining tilt issues. (Do your homework to find out how to use it with your premium camera).

Personally, I wouldn’t be satisfied with anything less than perfect setup. I’d really want to get the absolute best data that premium equipment can deliver.
