ASI585 MC/MM Air – Alpaca / ASCOM (Windows)

Hi,

I’ve been interested in connecting the ASI585 MC/MM Air cameras to NINA for quite a while now.
It seems that this works via Alpaca (network / Wi-Fi).

However, I’m still a bit skeptical about relying on a wireless connection — especially when it comes to guiding.

I found a thread on the ZWO forum discussing the Alpaca connection.
One user mentioned that he can also connect his 585 Air directly to a Windows PC via USB cable and use it in NINA that way.

(Second to last post)

Does anyone here have experience using the Alpaca connection, or has anyone tried connecting the 585 Air directly to a PC via USB?

Greetings
Brian

I tried that with the 2600 version and it won’t work. Period. Also, guiding was hopelessly slow and I needed to abandon it in favor of a separate guide scope. It was all just too complicated for my taste. Still, technically it worked reliably over wifi, it was just slow to guide.

Thanks for your reply.

The user in the ZWO forum (see link above) also wrote that it does not work with the 2600 Air.
He says that it only works with the 585.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can actually confirm or deny this.

I also wouldn’t want to connect my camera via Wi-Fi.
Wireless is simply far too unreliable for that, in my opinion.
