Astrobin plate solving - too much detail?

It has been a few months since I last uploaded my latest images to Astrobin. Is it just me, or did plate solving detail change?

I just uploaded this picture (which I am kind of proud of ;) of the CrA dark molecular cloud. And then I noticed that the plate solved result (mouse-over) looks like chaos! It shows every invisible galaxy and what not, rendering the annotations almost useless… - see below.

Is there a way for me to configure Astrobin to show less detail to people browsing my photos? This is not really useful.

I looked through the available documentation but could not find anything.

Thanks!

I agree, it’s always bothered me that it’s on by default. It would be much better if the viewer could turn it on and off as needed.

Hello,

You can turn off individual catalogs when the annotations there are too crowded (in this case the PGC catalog).

  • Image menu

  • Edit plate-solving settings

  • Advanced tab

  • Turn off the checkbox for the PGC catalog

@Tony Gondola viewers can turn off showing the annotations on mouse-hover. It's in the toolbox icon at the top-right corner of an image.

For any further questions please reach out via the support channel, using the Help menu at the top of the page. This forum is for community discussions, but to get an official response, that would be the best way.

Best regards,

Salvatore
