Overall I would say bravo, for a first image this is very good. I get the feeling that your photography experience is helping you out here. I can’t get into the details with a small image like this. Just putting up a link to the image in your bin would be much better. The first thing I do notice is a slight green cast to the color balance. I would work to see if I could balance that out. I’m also not seeing much star color. That’s probably because of the filter and the rather long 300 sec. subs. You might try 30 min. of shorter subs with a just a UV/IR filter to get RGB stars. Also, hard to really tell at this image scale but some of the details look a bit stringy, maybe pull back on BlurX a bit if you are using it.

Looks very nice, lots of detail in the core. As Tony mentioned, some more color would be nice. How did you stretch this image? I used MAS on this very same image and got ver colorful stars.

Just a reminder that the ASI2600MC Pro has a built in UV/IR filter, so I would definetly not advice anyone to double-stack with another.

Otherwise I agree, a bit more color wouldn’t hurt but I too belive this has more to do with stretching/curves adjustments.

Oh gosh, yes, i forgot about that!

Thank you both for your kind and helpful feedback!

Tony, good point about the UV/IR cut filter already built into the ASI2600MC Pro — I wasn’t aware of that, so I’ll definitely avoid double-stacking.

I’ll work on balancing out the green cast and pulling back on the sharpening. Tom, I used a standard histogram stretch in PixInsight — I’ll definitely try MAS next time to see if I can get more color out of the stars.

This is my first publication on Astrobin and your comments are very encouraging. I’ll reprocess this image with your suggestions in mind.

Clear skies!

I am also a young (68!) beginner… 😃 I just posted my few images in the main gallery, and they are much worse than yours! I would be very happy if my images ware like your first!
My compliments again!

Very nice job! This is a difficult target in my opinion. I have attemted it several times.

As someone mentioned earlier MAS is a game changer for bringing out colors in both stars and the target itself. HDR Multiscale Transform (HDRMT) is also a game changer process in pixinsight that I use for almost all my targets, but especially for galaxies where it is difficult to showcase the details in the bright core. Could be worth experimenting with.

For improving what is already good I would also suggeest to tone done the Blur xterminator and noise exterminator a tad. You could also expermiment with filters (GAME script in pixinsight for example) by using a stronger BXT image for the core and a weaker for the outer parts (the core has more signal and seems to handle it better), and then blend the two togheter (Image blend script for Pixinsight for example).

Also, while there is data in the outer arms your signal there is not quite strong enough to display it without some motling/noise. A more balanced result could be to sacrifice showing the fainter parts for a more clean presenetation (i.e., stretching less). I myself never apply nose reduction before stretching because it is often tempting bring out details that are just a bit too noisy if I do. Choosing to not show the faintest parts also allows you to use more of the dynamic range for the stronger parts of the galaxy and giving it more depth!

Anyways great job. Orders of magnitude better than my first image!

Great first effort. I don’t have much to add in terms of the good feedback above. With that said, @John Hayes gave an excellent TAIC talk on galaxy processing that’s worth a look. Check it out here on the TAIC YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/live/1XBon7x6kio?si=jwSUyli660-rs1JT

Bon ciel!
