Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a good EQ wedge for an Alt-Az mount (Celestron SLT).

The main issue is that the mount head itself weighs about 5 lbs, so if I use a wedge rated for ~11 lbs (like the Star Adventurer wedge), that leaves only about 6 lbs for the scope, camera, and everything else.

I’m planning to use lightweight astrographs (around 30–50mm) with a small imaging setup.

I know this won’t replace a real EQ mount, but I’d like to see how far this kind of setup can go.

I’d just like to have wedge recommendations with higher load capacity.

Thanks! Clear Skies!

Why not just make one out of plywood? When I got my first serious telescope back in the 70’s, a C-8 with no tripod. The first thing I did was throw together a plywood wedge so I could at least make use of the RA drive. It still amazes me how often people in this hobby go to sometimes expensive paid solutions to fix relatively simple problems.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I already thought about that, so I think I will try to make one.

Thank you. Clear Skies!
