Hello all,

looking at the IOTD, PuWe1, I would like to ask you for your suggestions and advise regarding my own picture of PuWe1 here: https://app.astrobin.com/u/gnnyman?i=gse11b compared to the actual IOTD.

I rate the actual IOTD as very good, fine details, very fine structures and colors and would like to understand from your POV why my image did not even get any “lower” rating. To learn and improve my skills…

Thanks for your contructive reviews!

Well, stars for start; they are basically monochrome and too flat. Background too bright and murky/splotchy (too much noise reduction).  The rendering of the PN is too flat and geared toward the highlights and not enough dynamic range. The inner OIII portion look weird, the left hand side is rightly teal but the right hand side is electric blue(?). Details are good so you have some good data there.

Agree with what Andrea said, especially the pancake stars, and would add it looks off that the brighter areas have more grain/noise than the dim areas. All relating to the balance of your application of noise reduction and sharpening. And more time would also be a big help as well. I will say I think the IOTD is a little painterly for my taste

Thank you Andrea, I do appreciate your comments! The background - yes, it is not homogeneous because there is a lot of Ha and dust in the background. The stars - I do agree, they could be much finer and better. The color difference of OIII left/right - no idea, why.
Thanks,

Georg

I agree with everyone about the background. this I think is a case of trying to go deep, but not deep enough to render the background cleanly. Maybe it would have been better to go deep enough to render the subject without getting into the mucky background if that makes any sense. I’m also not a fan of the extended halos around the bright stars.

RCC - I can't figure out how to progress
Hi All. I feel like I’m imaging and processing at an intermediate level but I’m always looking to improve and I feel like I’ve hit a bit of a wall. I have two setups: Skywatcher 190MN with 533MC Pro - I use Ha/Oiii and Oiii/Sii DNB filters here. ZWO ...
