Hello folks,

Any new owners of the 10Micron GM1000 EP can share their feedback? I am looking to pull the trigger on once to carry a 12in RC down in Chile at DSC

Thanks in advance and clear skies to all

Have they figured out a new MGPBox type thing that can remotely power it on?

The new version won't work with the older MGPBox.

That's pretty important at a remote observatory.

Hi!

I previously had a GM1000 HPS and have now upgraded to the GM1000 HPS EP.

I am thrilled with the mount because the tracking accuracy with a 15-point star pattern is fantastic and I don't need to align the pole. I use the mount with focal lengths from 300 mm to 1000 mm, and my typical exposure time for individual shots is 300 to 600 seconds.

The GM1000 HPS EP is easy to use and works without any problems.

Here are some more photos of my setups.

I usually dismantle the mount completely from the pillar in the morning, as I don't have a shelter.

Nikguy,

Nice looking scopes you got there.   The SQA130 looks great!

I'm a little confused about your post though.   I can't remember anyone mentioning any tracking accuracy difference between the older GM1000 HPS and the new GM1000 HPS EP.

There was the increased payload and the new control computer (with the new remote power switch).

Can you talk about any performance differences you've noticed?

Thanks.

P.S.   Get a Telegizmo 365 cover and you can stop taking things apart every morning.   When I got mine things became a lot easier.

I have been using the ‘new’ GM1000 HPS EP for about 8 months and have the subjective feeling that the tracking accuracy is slightly higher than with the ‘old’ GM1000 HPS.

Over the last few months, I have been testing the number of stars for a model and have found that a 15-point model WITHOUT polar alignment is easily sufficient for a 600 mm focal length and single shots with an exposure time of 300 seconds.

With the ‘old’ GM1000 HPS, I always had to run a 30-35 point model so that I could take 300-600 second single shots.

But please note that this is my subjective perception; I have not carried out any real tests with verifiable measurement results (e.g. eccentricity).

I use the mount with telescope weights from 5 kg to 18 kg.

Thanks for the detailed response and you’re awesome feedback. I’d like to use it with a 12in RC and my SBIG 4040, should be a great match for DeepskyChile’s subarcsecond seeing.
