Is anyone else having issues with the automatic astrometry.net and PixInsight platesolving taking a very long time?

I uploaded a shot of M81-M82 yesterday and when I look at it on my page, it still says trying to plate solve. It had no issues solving inside PI when I edited the photo and I’ve notice some of my other more recent images taking several days to plate-solve. It does eventually get there, but it seems like a long time.

Hi Greg,

thanks for reaching out.

I’m not seeing any general issues at the moment. Looking at recent images, plate solving is completing normally where applicable. In your case, it looks like that image was simply stuck in the processing queue, which can occasionally happen.

For future reference, you can always restart the plate-solving process yourself from the image menu. I’ve gone ahead and restarted it for you this time, so there’s nothing you need to do.

I can see that the image solved quickly once restarted.

Please let me know if you notice this happening again or if anything else looks off.

Best regards,

Salvatore

That’s why I don’t use Astronomy.net anymore, not even as a backup.

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of the “restart Plate-Solving” feature. My image of NGC 2264 The Christmas Tree Cluster was the other image from a couple of weeks ago that failed to solve so I just went and hit restart on it and it’s churning away again and giving me the same message, “Your image could not be plate-solved”.

Thanks, this helped me discover another issue and I will be adding more automatic-recovery scenarios today.
