Marking a revision as 'final' does not seem to work

When marking Revision B as ‘final’ in my staging area it becomes ‘final’ with the orange outline. When I reload the image page, now BOTH the original and Rev B have orange outlines. And the opening image is the original rather than the Rev B as ‘final’.

Hi Jim,

seems like this image might have gotten itself into an invalid state for that regard. I will fix manually and think about what might have caused it.

Kind regards!

Works now Salvatore - thanks.

I wonder if I caused the problem. When staging a project, I routinely have two tabs open on the project page. One tab I am editing and the other tab I am reloading the page and checking my edits - while I am still in the editor for the project. Maybe this is a bad thing?

Also, I am seeing on all my images pages the advertisement seems to be stuck - with a big gray “Loading ad…” box. And All of my other pages tab comes up with my staging area title. (Sorry for going off topic, but I didn’t think it was worth another post.)

This is not a bad habit and it wouldn't cause that. What could cause problems is saving from multiple tabs without updating first, as the other tabs is not aware that the object changed in the database, so it's save might override the save from the other tab. But it doesn't look you're doing that.

Thanks. I assume you don't have an adblocker, or you wouldn't find that odd. What browser do you run?

OK, busted maybe. I don’t intend to have two editing tabs open, but I may have accidentally done that since I was doing some substantial editing

Yes, my AB settings allow ads. I am using Firefox, But I have the same result on Edge. I am still worried about the tab name. I know probably most don’t pay any attention to it. I do my own webpage in ancient static HTML and I notice these things.

Hi all,

I had the same issue with my last image. I wanted also to change the final version and ended in a complete dead lock. Even switching to old UI and making the change there did not help. I had to delete everything and re-upload everything.

Hey Salvatore,

Related to this issue of the image page ad, I additionally notice I see the “Thanks for not disabling ads…” banner across my gallery page as well as others’ gallery pages. I can’t see astrophotographer’s names or metrics. I have had to disable ads in my preferences to make these issues go away.

I would like to revert back to allowing ads if you find a fix.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for reporting this issue with the ad appearing in the wrong position on the gallery page. I've investigated the code but haven't been able to reproduce the problem on my end, which suggests it might be specific to your browser or
device configuration.

To help me debug this further, could you please provide the following information?

1. Browser and version
2. Operating system
3. Screen resolution (you can find this in your display settings)
4. Are you using any browser extensions? Particularly ad blockers like uBlock Origin, AdBlock, etc.
5. Are you using AstroBin in a browser or as an installed PWA (Progressive Web App)?
6. Does this happen every time you visit the page, or only sometimes?

If you're comfortable with browser developer tools, it would also be very helpful if you could:
- Right-click on the ad area and select "Inspect"
- Find the element with class header-ad-container
- Screenshot the "Computed" styles panel for that element

This will help me understand exactly what CSS is being applied in your environment.

Thanks for your patience and for helping improve AstroBin!

Best regards,
Salvatore

I have turned my ads off in astrobin preferences. I think I need to turn it back on to try any of the troubleshooting you suggested. Here are my answers to your questions…

  1. Browser - Firefox (147.0.2 (64 bit) - but I have seen the issue on Edge

  2. Windows 11 (24H2)

  3. 1920×1080

  4. On standard Firefox settings, I have “Block pop-ups and third-party redirects” checked to enable

  5. Astrobin is used in this bowser - no App

  6. It has been intermittent. I have to turn Astrobin ads back on to get a better sense of consistency or repeatability

I will turn astrobin ads back on for a few days or so to see I f I get a better sense of consistency or repeatability. I’ll get back to this thread with any findings unless you want to go to PM or email.

Salvatore,

Here is a quick update. After my last reply I turned my astrobin ads back on in preferences…

1.I saw ads not loading (hanging with a ‘loading ad…’ message) on any image page (mine or another user) at any time - after any sequence of astrobin navigation I tried. Or after any browser ‘reload’ click
2. first entry to my gallery worked fine - no ‘thank you’ banner obstructing the gallery header (see earlier image)
3. If I selected an image page from my gallery and returned to my gallery via my name on the image page or the browser back button, the banner appeared. Sometimes it would take two of these cycles for the banner to return.
4. In re selecting any other user’s gallery, this same sequence would result in the return of the banner on that user’s gallery page.
5. On my gallery or another user’s gallery, the unwanted ‘thank you’ banner would go away with a browser ‘reload’ click and would not come back with most astrobin navigation - until I entered a n image page, got the ‘loading ad…’ message and then returned to any gallery
6. Again the unwanted ‘thank you’ banner on the gallery would go away with the browser ‘reload’ click. and restore normal operation.

7. This behavior was not present in Edge (Version 144.0.3719.92), But ads would still not load. There was a ‘Remove ads’ button on image page and gallery page (see red circle)…

📷 image.pngimage.png📷 image.pngimage.pngI will do the ‘developer tools’ thing tomorrow (in Firefox). Right now I want to go to bed.

Salvatore,

I now notice that the gallery page ‘Thank You’ banner appears upon page entry but disappears very shortly - to brief to read.

The ‘loading ad…’ box on an image page still remains indefinitely.

Here is the Developer Tools screen shot you asked for (I think):
