My entry drug was my first picture of Jupiter taken with an Olympus camera and a telephoto lens on a tripod in Summer.
I bought used telescope-gear some weeks later, it was a celestron C5 on a skywatcher HEQ5-Pro with an ASI 120 MC-S Camera, simply a beginner's planetary observation gear. As I am writing these lines I become aware that I have not taken a single picture of any Planet with it…
Some Weeks later I bought a new ASI 482MC Planetary Camera, but all I did was taking images of galaxies until now. But this Camera works very well in this setup and is indeed capable of taking deepsky images, it has large pixels and is very sensitive. With dithering and drizzle-integration the low resolution of the sensor does not matter very much, I am getting used to work with this camera and I like it more and more.
My C5 is not a great telescope to do astrophotography with, but that is what I have. And I am still learning new things in every session.
Recently I found an old Tele Vue 100/500 Genesis Refractor on an internet-platform for all kind of used stuff. I just bought it. Awaiting it's arrival unpatiently.
This is a very expensive hobby for me but - well, the joy and fun you are getting back for this money accompanies you through the rest of your life.
I am taking pictures in the courtyard of our former farmhouse in Lower Austria, Bortle Class 4 sky.
Waiting for clear skies…
