Hi,

Question on adding acquisition data to a gallery post. I typically collect 15-20 hours per filter and rather than entering how many hours were collected on each date for each filter, I would like to enter something like “20 hours of OIII were collected between August 15 and 20th”. Is this possible. I have searched around and haven’t figured out how to add a custom date. The acquisition form only allows one date per entry.

Hi Jim,

until a time when AstroBin will use AI to parse such text and fill the form with structured data that matched your plain text input, this is not possible.

AstroBin is be design and philosophy oriented to encourage accurate data input (even tho this is, admittedly, inconvenient to some).

This pays off because of AstroBin's strength in its search engine: with a plain text input like what you described, AstroBin would be able to perform search queries like “show me all images acquired with an OIII filter with more than 15 hours of integration time on these dates”.

I do plan to add what I mentioned above: a translation layer from plain text to AstroBin's internal data structure, plus approval step by the photographer, to make things easier.

Thanks for understanding!

Salvatore

Hi Salvatore,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I totally understand the need and desire for accurate data input. I’m willing to add an entry for each date that data was collected. I just wanted to know if there was a capability that I wasn’t aware of for those unique instances where there might be a multitude of entries for a project with an exceptional amount of data. My rig is at a remote observatory and I usually collect about 50 hours of data per project. In the future I may increase that to collect some of the faint OIII structures in targets.

Thanks again for everything you do with AstroBin.

Hi Jim,

besides making your life a bit easier by using the button to duplicate a session and then only change what's different, you can also import by CSV.

This is useful if you keep track of your session in Excel, or it's easier for you to input data that way.

There are also several solutions to generate that file from your data, e.g.:

There are probably more tools around but I can't remember them.

If somebody else can chime in, that would be great!

RGB integration time for LRGB images (mostly galaxies)
Was just collecting some rgb data on Ngc 7217 and I was just curious; how long does everyone go for each filter when doing an LRGB image?? How much RGB do you think is sufficient to properly bring out good color in galaxies?? clear skies!!!
