I recently purchased a Sky Watcher EQH5 pro and I have watched a ton of videos on the different configurations of set up. When I went to start guiding after alignment the mount is never able to be "found" due to not being seen in the USB port. I have seen multiple ways of connecting and believe I've tried most of them with no luck. I see both USB to RJ11(phone)  and USB to RJ45(ethernet) cords for making this connection.  Which one is the best way to connect for guiding with device in app and not on a laptop? One my SW Star Adventurer I came out the guide cam into the RJ11 port on the mount and the 2 port(on guide cam)I connected into the asiair usb 2.0 port, but this doesn't work on the EQH5 model. Main hardware I need to configure…. Asi120mm(guide), asi294mcp(main cam, Sky Watcher EQH5-pro(mount), ASIair Plus(pi).

I don't know anything about the ASIAir, but I do know that using an EQDirect cable works well for guiding/controlling the HEQ5 Pro.  It converts USB to serial to control the mount.  No ST4 guiding.  As long as the ASIAir supports EQDirect you should be good.

Thanks! Thats one of the methods I attempted that night. I didn't have the rj45 to usb so I used a usb to rj45 adapter and a ethernet cable. no luck. Not sure if it was to adapter or the set up tbh. What ports do you plug the EQ direct cable? I watched that video using the EQ mount using this cable, in that video they said,"we aren't using the hand controller so don't even worry about that. So I assumed you plug into the "guide' port on the HEQ5 or the port on the hand controller itself? The asiair plus does have a option for EQ direct mount as well as the SW synscan and others. I have the SW usb to rj45 cable now and a SW usb to RJ11 cable coming tomorrow. I assume you are saying plug that SW usb to rj45(ethernet) into the mount guiding port, correct?

Hi

I use an ASIAIR pro with a HEQ-5, I use the EQ Direct cable and it works like a dream. Just plug and play without any configuration (other than tell ASIAIR app that your connection is EQDirect

I plug the EQDirect cable directly into the hand controller port on the mount as below.  FWIW:  the cable I use is the HitecAstro FTDI EQDIR USB Adapter.

Thanks I really appreciate it! The problem must have been the usb to rj45 to ethernet cordIwas using while my EQmod cable came. It came today. I did just as you described, plugging the EQmod cable into the "hand control" port on the mount. I plug the RJ11 off my asi120mm into the "Autoguider" port on the mount and the 2nd usb off the guide cam into the usb2 port on the ASIair plus. NowIjust use the app on my phone to control the entire process. The ASIair plus is worth its weight in gold!

This is the wrong way. When you useuse EQdirect ypu dont use the auto guide port (the rj11) you only need the usb for the guide camera. Nothing else.
So, use the USB to RJ45 FTDI cable for controlling the mount. And use USB only for the guide camera.
The Auto guide port on the mount will be empty.
