Hello All,

In the past before switching over to the FITS file type I always captured TIFF or PNG files and before I would load them into stacking and registering software (APP & DSS) I would double click on the 1st image and them Microsoft image viewer would pop up and I could quickly look at the images for abnormalities and delete them prior to stacking them.

With the FITS file type Microsoft image viewer doesn’t view these files. What are you guys using to quickly scroll thru your FITS images before stacking them?

I’m not using PI or PS,  I’m currently using Gimp and yes it does open the files but is slow and quite time consuming to open each individual file to do a quick visual on it.

Thanks in advance!

I use this: works perfect:

Thanks Allan,

I’m on my iPad right now but I’ll take a look at it. I assume this is a stand alone viewer?

Hi Dale,

If I want to have a quick look, especially at the headers, I‘m using FITSLiberator.

Hello all,

all the recommended tools are separate tools which do not integrate into file explorer. Therefore I would recommend "FITS4WIN2".
Here is the link: https://astroshed.com/software.html

This is not freeware, but it integrates seamless into Windows file explorer and you can use the explorer preview function and see the fits content as image. What is even more smart, you can use the fits tags as columns when list folder content (see screenshot below. Some randomly chosen columns).

I use this tool now for couple of years and I am very satisfied. In the price included is also a Fits header mass manipulation tool resp viewer.

Cheers
Rüdiger
